If you are looking to take English courses in Canada, the city of Vancouver has a lot to offer. Vancouver is nearly surrounded by water and mountains making it a great destination for outdoor enthusiasts. It is also very cultural diverse and is the fastest growing city in Canada. Selecting English courses in Vancouver is smart as there is plenty to see and do without getting so overwhelmed by the location that you forget to study.
While there are two official languages in Canada, English and French, most of the people in Vancouver speak English. However, because of the city’s ethnical diversity you may find yourself in the mix of a variety of different languages. Because of large native communities, there is some intermixture of English and Chinook Jargon. Jargon itself is simple to learn as they are not that many words and many are borrowed from the English and French language. Examples of Chinook words commonly used are saltchuck, skookum, and potlatch.
While the city of Vancouver is fairly young and probably not the best choice for those interested in history, it is a fantastic melting pot of different ethnicities and cultures. Vancouver has one of the mildest climates in Canada although it does rain quite a bit in the winter. For those who love the outdoors, Vancouver is surrounded by water and mountains and a great place to visit the beach or walk the Seawall and participate in mountain sports like skiing and snowboarding. Hockey is big in Canada so while you are in Vancouver make certain to see a Canucks game at GM Place. Vancouver has also become quite popular in the North American film industry ranking only behind Los Angeles and New York. It is a wonderful place for celebrity sightings without all the crazy paparazzi activity. Vancouver is also consistently ranked as being one of the cleanest cities in the world and the quality of living ranked highly as well.
